2006 Was An Incredible Year At Church Of Girl!

18. January . 2007

We knew 2006 would be an exciting year starting last January when we announced Radio Stars Swallows, Triple Crème and Kastastrophe. Then in the spring, we received music from Killola, My Toys Like Me, Electroluvs, Listen With Sarah, Liz Durrett and Morgan Grace.

Over the summer Sweden’s Soak The Sin -- who refer to Church of Girl as “The Prestigious Church of Girl Radio” -- sent us The Work is Done. Followed by Mommy and Daddy, Forget Cassettes, Autonervous, Venus Hum, Miss Derringer. We were featured in an Oregonian Arts and Entertainment Cover Story about Portlanders who operate internet radio staions, too!

The hits kept coming all through the fall and winter with: Craft Landing, Swallows, Lisa Papineau, Kristi Rae, The May Fire, Pupkulies & Rebecca, Mad Tea Party, Ellen Allien, Boyskout, Camille Davila, Excuses for Skipping and The Trucks! And Mary Ann was interviewed by Julie on the Radio on her show DIY Portland. The show covers music distribution and local resources available to bands and artists, and also features an interview with CD Baby! It's available for download from radio 4all.net

We Saw Many Great Shows

Alina Simone (9th avenue pub), Dahlia (Porky’s), Eagle + Talon (Doug Fir), Morgan Grace with Sam Henry (We Made This Festival), Shitting Glitter (ACME). Swallows (Towne Lounge, ACME, Someday Lounge), and Sleater Kinney’s last show 1 of 2 w/out Eddie Vedder (Crystal Ballroom).

A Year Of Shrink Art And Craft Fairs

From Craft Rock to Handmade Bazaar to Crafty Wonderland…hundreds of people in Portland and around the world are now sporting necklaces made by our resident creatrix who runs Ladymade, Kinky Dinks and Galaxy Girls.

You can find Ladymade shrink art necklaces at :: Motokitty :: on SE 11th and Division, and soon at In Other Words – located at 8 NE Killingsworth.

Church Socials

2006 was also the year we started holding monthly Church socials! Breakfast yums, cocktails and new friends… the monthly socials will resume on the last Sunday of the month in 2007.

Showing Love

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helps make Church of Girl the marvelous place it continues to be:

To all who sent us stuff this year -- bands, artists, musicians, publicists, promoters, managers label owners and everyone involved in this infinitely amazing world of music -- THANK YOU for helping us connect our community to such incredible music and art.

To all who purchased shrink art jewelry in 2006: THANK YOU!! Your purchase helps defray the monthly and yearly costs and fees of independently operating a 24/7 internet radio station and website.

To our LISTENERS and VISITORS who pass through day and night from all corners of the globe -- Kuala Lampur, The Czech Republic, London, Berlin, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, La, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Brooklyn, Paris….

YOU tune in, find out about new music, buy the artists cd’s (and make them SOOO happy). We’re honored to be a reliable source for great new music.

A special shout out to all the incredible Radio Stars at Church of Girl: We are blown away by your tunes and thrilled to promote your music on Church of Girl and Church of Girl Radio.

A special thanks to The Trucks, Alina Simone, The Sharp Ease, Morgan Grace, Renae Bryant, Plastic Parachute, addicted2fiction for taking the time to talk with Church of Girl in 2006 (& Rhythm King and Her Friends in 2004!).

To our interns… we love you! 2007 is going to be fantastic! Paul, Em, Heidi, Justin, Jon, Beth, Chelsea, Nolan… we look forward to greatness in the new year.

Love Always,

Guest DJ
Church of Girl's Guest DJ Program

Wow! The Guest DJ is the brainchild of Church of Girl Intern Jon Miller (Swallows). We are honored to have featured Jenny Hoyston (Errase Errata) as the first Guest DJ on the program. If you missed her mix the first time around; no worries. The mix will be aired again in the coming weeks.

Church of Girl’s current Guest DJ is the gloriously talented self-portrait photographer Enid Crow. We LOVE her mix! Check it out and help spread the word about this fantastic hour on Church of Girl Radio!

Church of Girl's Interviews
