Granulated and Pure

You know the story, right? One night a group of people including Linda Smith (guitar and vox), Bev Stanton (bass and recording production), Mary Fox (vox and lyrics), Chris Chernes (percussion), and Paul Baroody (drums) got together for an an improvisational punk rock jam session.

They liked what they heard so much, they decided to form into a band called The Window Shoppers. On their full length release, as on their EP, the songs are inspired by 70's and 80's punk rock and new wave bands like The Bush Tetras, X Ray Spex, Pylon, and Patti Smith without sounding like any of them. In fact, their songs would make you swear The Window Shoppers were playing right along side of the bands that inspire them.

Sounds like the lost 80's underground

They recently emerged from a basement in Northeast Baltimore. The band is Linda Smith - guitar and vocals, Paul Baroody - drums, Mary Fox - vocals and lyrics, Chris Chernes - percussion, and Bev Stanton - bass and recording production. Bev Stanton is also the woman behind Arthur Loves Plastic, a three-time Church of Girl Radio Star.

The Window Shoppers make music that is probably most correctly described as improvisational punk rock, though we would probably tell you they have a gritty 80’s dark wave feel to their sound. You can hear their varied influences such as The Bush Tetras, X Ray Spex, and Patti Smith – though they don’t sound like any of them.

Their self-titled EP offers a captured moment in time: When they play live, The Window Shoppers never play their songs the same way twice.
